So I am not a John Deere guy and we bought a 2010 gas about a year or so ago. Yesterday as I was bushhogging downhill the Pto, power steering and all hydraulics quit, without warning. Not low on fluids. Any ideas from the experts out there. It had been working fine for the last year with the exception of the Pto was a little hard sometimes to engage, in fact I have actually had to turn engine of to engage before. As always I appreciate your help and input.
Thanks
John

You have two individual problems, 1) The PTO is a set of linkages and dry clutches in the rear transmission case. The only way to know what is wrong is to look.. these are only viewable by removing the three point arm lift assembly. Take NOTE to remove the transmission cover and remove the bolts from the oil supply tube on the right side back corner before lifting the assembly ,other wise the oil tube will be damaged. 2) The hdy issue could be several things. However start with the simplest first. Clean the filter, it could be starving the hdy pump of oil. Drain the transmission case and remove the round cover on the right side under the foot rest. The filter is a washable micro filter. Stand it open end up and pour the oil in, it should run right out if it does not it is not clean. Other things that could be wrong are a clogged diverter valve or the hdy pump. As always a good manual would be of great help to you. Fix the hdy issue first any questions please ask.. Jo

There is a disconnect linkage on left side near the clutch pedal that could have been bumped out ...check this first...and if you can sell or trade this unit in the "very" near future it would be beneficial in maintaining your sanity...one of "Pandora's Boxes" has 2010 on the label...

99% of us here wish you had asked about the 2010 before spending you hard earned money on such a piece of crap. That is coming from somebody who bleeds JD green. Only thing worse would be a diesel 2010. Seriously, sell the 2010 for what ever you can get and be done with it. I don't intended to sound hash but trying to make the point clear to eliminate the headache.

Yes, I have had the misfortune to replace the Governor bearing in a 2010 gas this week,,even removing the radiator was an extreme effort,,I was wishing the engineers that designed it were there...to share the moment with me...

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like she will be park for a little bit and I will have to tear into it. I promise as soon S she is fixed it will find a new home. Gonna have to fix it to het my money back I am afraid. Again thanks and if I have any questions when I tear into it I will be sure to post on here.
Thanks

If the filter is not clogged, the drive coupling for the hydraulic pump has come unhooked. You are supposed to be able to disconnect the pump to make cold weather starting easier. The fork that shifts the coupling gets worn. I had a 2010 for 35 years, it must have been the only good one made. Put washers on the shafts to hold the coupling in the center.

Thanks for all the input. I tore into the tractor and found that the rivets that hold the yoke on the pressure plate to drive the Pto shaft had broken and preventing it to drive. When the Pto doesn't drive the hydraulic pump doesn't work either. Very poor design by John Deere. She is fixed and all back in business.
Again thanks and happy tractoring.
Thanks
John
