JD 2020 tractor

Needing to change rear crank oil seal on eng #SNM5ITH037838T, looks like I have to remove housing #R63434 and replace it from the inside, right? Which seal can I use? What is the procedure to install over crank and which tool do I need?

Was this 2020 built for sales in N America or Europe. Engine serial # doesn't appear correct for a 2020 built for sales in N.A. Seal part # I locate if engine was built for N.A. sales is DZ111672

I found this breakdown in my 2020 service manual>

SN = serial number
M = Motor
5 = 4 Cylinder
1 = Fuel, Gas
T = Using Factory - Dubuque
H = Application - HU Model
037838 = serial number
T = Build Factory - Dubuque Tractor Works

There is a foot note that the SN was not used on later models.

Turns out I had to remove flywheel housing to remove seal. Seal is supposed to be installed on crank before reinstalling housing back. Seal # is a C/R T20326T and sort of works like a bellows type of seal,sleeve on crank and spring actuated on back against crank flange and teflon against inside face of flywheel housing. Installation was discussed at some time in the past on this site and I got good info. For some reason the serial # of engine means it is a later model 2020 but turn out that it is of earlier series. It has the same seal as the JD Lanze 710 model from Germany. Where does a guy get that seal at a reasonable price? $425.00 U.S. seams like a lot , just got a cell phone for $80.00 .

Many have replaced the flywheel housing plate with one from a later engine than used the newer seal, or had theirs machined to accept the newer seal. I don't have the specifics but someone will be along with more info. I think the later plate is R63434 and the seal used in it is RE24959. Here is one post about this change:

I agree I would replace with later style or modify flywheel housing to accept later style seal. It's odd Andy's engine serial # indicates later seal required.

Good point. 036138 is listed as the starting serial number for the later style housing and seal.
