JD 2030 Hydraulic Issue

I recently purchased a 1974 JD 2030 tractor with JD146 loader.
Pretty basic:
Dual dry disc clutch
single 540 rpm pto
No Hi-Lo or reverser

I have checked fluid, main filter, screen, and filter pressue relief valve.

Tractor has no hydraulics on loader or rear arms until a fairly high rpm, unless I turn the wheel all the way to the left.

I believe I have a high pressue steering leak as described in this post:

I would appreciate some more confirmation of my diagnosis before I order the parts and try fix this old tractor.

Start the tractor when it is cold and let it run at 1200 rpm for about 15 minutes without moving it or using any hydraulic functions.
Physically feel, or use a laser heat gun on the steering valve, loader valve, rear rockshaft housing, and rear remote if so equipped.Carefully remove the hydraulic oil fill cap and look inside to see if there is any oil spraying,if so the rockshaft valve is leaking. If any of these valves are warm or hot (more than surrounding castings)they have an internal leak. This should eliminate these as the source of your problem, but it's not to say that there is not a cracked or partially dislodged lube line in the trans,,bleeding off lube pressure,or a bad trans pump, which will starve the front pump. But going from your description, assuming all else is good I would lean toward the steering valve

To add to what MSM stated if power steering valve is suspected to have internal leak just disconnect the PS supply line on RH side and cap it. Then check operation of loader and RS.

Thanks for the advice fellas.
I'll check it out and let you know.
I don't have any kind of repair manual on this yet. Any suggestions?

If you're going to buy a tech manual buy a JD manual as it contains more info than an I&T. Myself I'd buy a manual on a CD.

I did as you suggested and the steering valve area was a lot hotter.
Also after the 15 minutes a small leak started just below the steering wheel.
I did not see any leaking or spraying anywhere inside the rockshaft area.
I guess tomorrow I'll check the price on a rebuild kit.

Wierd thing happened The other day. I was trying to get something done with the tractor, and the hydraulics started to work normally. A couple of times they almost stopped completely, but within a minute or so they were back to working. Now they appear to function normally. Now that I have my Technical manual I am thinking that my problem is either: Surge relief Valve or the Pressure control valve sticking. When I first looked at the tractor there didn't appear to be any signs of water in the hydraulic fluid, nor is there any evidence of any anywhere inside the case, etc. I'm just wondering if it just sat a long time and some things are sticking?
