My friend is looking at and considering buying a 2130 Deere. Tractor data says it has a 239 engine but its date of production puts it at pre 239 like 219 era. It is supposed to have a "little" hydraulic problem. Any thoughts on a 2130?

How little ?
It's a 239. Mannheim and Dubuque were the same but different .

Good tractor all around. A
little hydraulic problem can become expensive really fast. BD is correct, 239 engine, if it is a Mannheim one, they were built from 1974 on, early models had a rounded front like the 4020, later models were more snub nosed like the 4x30 series. Ben

One of my favourite tractors. Yes the little hydraulic problem could be just that.........or not.
Does it have hi/lo, independent PTO?

Hi
It could be as simple as blocked filters or a split line internally BUT

If it has a little problem with the brakes making grinding sounds when you stand on them hard while driving run like mad. That probably won't be a little hyd problem. Filings will be in the whole system. I had an 1830 here like that with high hours.

The hyd system was completely worn out. It ran fine for about 15 mins then the pto, Hi low shift, 3 point and steering went dead. We started looking internally after pressure/ flow testing and it wasn't worth fixing. Parts are expensive for German made tractors here in Canada. we found this about 3 years before the guy scrapped it, when we fixed a different pto problem so bare that in mind.

The other thing I have seen in a couple older Deeres is the rubber "O" rings start failing. that 1830 had lots of them in the transmission/hyd system. they were all starting to get hard and to the point of breaking up when a guy worked on it. so internal leaks could be a strong possibility to.

It could be a nice tractor with a little time and money, or just a total headache he wishes he'd never seen. My guess is the seller knows whats wrong and the cost or doesn't want the bother or cost of finding out whats wrong and fixing it . The diagnostic procedure needs to be followed and flow and pressure guages used. Fred and his buddy bob aren't going to guess this throwing parts at it. you need the proper JD manual. The I&T book will drive a guy nuts trying to figure it out, as it don't tell you half what you need to know if he's a gambling man and buys it.
