JD 2240 hydraulic problems

The hydraulics suddenly stop working on a JD 2240. Lost 3point lift, power steering and remote. Tractor is a 8 speed twin stick but does not have the high / low option. Main pump seems good and I m fairly certain I m not getting fluid from the trans pump. The PTO does engage which I assumed would not if the trans pump was not working. Is it common for a trans pump to suddenly stop working? What is the best way to diagnose this issue before splitting the tractor?

Back in the day when I was working for a Deere dealer those tractors were in production and we had many of them in the fields. They were famous for cracking steel hydraulic lines in the transmission in the area of the shift levers. I'd bet money that's where your problem is. Unfortunately it's hard to test for. Most times when you split the tractor you'd find the problem, but sometimes it took some serious looking to find the correct line. Good Luck!

If your tractor has hyd pto or hyd hi-lo remove shift cover & blow compressed air into tubes listening for escaping air. Also remove hyd filter cover, place clean container under opening, engage starter for 15 seconds then measure amount of oil in container. There should be a little over 1 gallon in container.
