JD 2240 operating temp

I have a late serial # 2240 diesel. My
factor gauge is broken so I have wired in a
temp gauge to keep and eye on things. While
cutting heavy grass hay today. The temp was
climbing to 205-210 under load. If I
stopped and let her idle she would cool
down pretty quick. Ambient temps were in
the upper 90s. Since the factory gauge is a
green range on the gauge, does anyone what
what the actual temp range is?

It has a 180 degree thermostat. Rad is
clear, coolant if full and appears to be
flowing. No obvious issues and not really
sure if I have an issue.

Thanks
If someone knows the normal operating temp
range in degrees, I would be greatful

If the antifreeze is mixed properly it won't boil until it hits 230#. I think you're fine especially in those conditions.

The JD service manual for your 2240 may give the temperature ranges for the colors. I know some of the JD gauges start the red about 225 degrees F. If the gauge is reading correctly, it sounds like it is ok, based on the load and ambient temperature you posted.

Some things to consider. You say you wired in a temp gauge. Did you install the sensor for that temp gauge? Senders and gauges need to match to read correctly, it may not be reading correctly if you hooked it to the old sensor. Check (best at the sender) with a temp gun to see if the temps match. You say the radiator is clear. How often do you clean the radiator exterior? They can look ok on the surface but have buildup deeper in the core. Blow or wash it out, rear to front, regularly when mowing, especially if there are dry seed heads and weed flowers. Is the fan belt in good condition and properly tensioned?

Awesome, thanks fellas. Like I said if I
had the temp range gauge wouldn't have even
thought about it being an issue
