JD 2355 not starting

My friend just got a used Model 2355 . The other day he put his bush hog on and cut for 3 hours. Stop for lunch and came out 30 minutes later and would not start. Just turn over real slow. Then if he waits 1 1/2 hours it will start right up. WHY ?????

Sounds typical for hyd pump trying to pump oil overloading starter. You can try wiggling steering wheel rapidly from side to side while engaging starter or install & utilize a hyd pump destroking screw. Also relocate battery ground cable from bat box to engine block

The $15 destroker works better than going fiddly diddly with the steering wheel.
As previously stated the extra ground cable from a battery - to a starter mounting bolt also does wonders.
