JD 2440 Steering Problem

I was moving some dirt around yesterday with the 2440, and on my next to last run, I hit a small bump in the dirt, and bounced the front end, and lost my steering completely. The hydraulics are working fine, but no steering.

The steering wheel spins freely to the left and to the right, but then hits some resistance. The connections under the tractor operate correctly.

Any suggestions? Deere tech said we should look at the left and right steering valves, but I thought I"d ask for any suggestions first.

Thanks!

on the left side of clutch housing above the clutch pedal there 2 round metal covers,( covers pry out) the right one is were you remvoe a 5/8 bolt to remove the steering arm, look in there and turn the steering wheel, i have had that bolt come loose and make the steering sloppy but never fail like yours has. that is the easy thing to do first, happy hunting

The steering "arm" will on occassion strip the splines. Worse of course if somebody hasn't put a wrench on there now and again to check.
Mother Deere and I think Kim's site here sell the arm new. I would say support Kim.
