JD 2550 year model

I recently bought a JD 2550 with cab and air ("cabin air", as our local classifieds always seem to print it). It seems to be a great tractor so far. I found an owner's manual and the technical shop manual for it. Both are from 1984, but from the configuration of the cab and controls I think this tractor may be newer. I thought these were totally made in Germany, but the engine tag says "Made in France". Anyone have the serial number dates for these?

go to www.external_link it will tell a ton of information on tractors i looked at a 2555 last weekend and it was a 1990 or 1991 with front wheel assist so it could be newer than 84

Thanks, but I've looked and external_link doesn't have any serial numbers listed for the 2550.

I believe the 2555 was made from about 1988 to 1992. I have a 1990 and it does say made in Germany. So 2550 must have been built before 1988. Don't think there is a lot of difference between a 2550 and 2555.

From my observations...those were some of the best units (50 series) that JD ever produced. I never owned one, but have several neighbors that do....all seemed real pleased. I had to laugh once....I pointed out to my neighbor that his engine said Made in France and he got this adamant look on his chops and says..."is not!..it"s German made!" I said well, if you get around to it one of these days...read this here (pointing at it) tag! That man could destroy an anvil with a rubber mallet...so, that speaks highly of how tough his 2550 has been.

2550's built 1983 - 1987. The engines were made in Saran France, Chassis in Manheim Germany, Cab built in Waterloo Iowa.
