JD 3020 LP Gear Reduction Starter

I'm looking for a source to purchase a gear reduction starter for A JD 3020 LP or Propane. I called J&N Electric and they do not have them. Ebay and Amazon have them for a diesel.

I have one of those starters on a gas 4020, and (AFAIK) it will fir a 3020, as well.

One thing I had to do was to drill a new drain hole and plug the original with silicone, as the case drain would have faced "UP" with the starter mounted.

SIMPLE fix.

If you look at the auction, there's LOTS of interchange numbers listed, if you want to look for other sources.

So, I take it the starter works well...

and trying to picture it in my mind; the gear reduction starter will be more or less upside down when mounted?

Couple follow up questions:

1. Will the side shield still fit on the tractor after it is in place?
2. I also have a 4010 LP; I guess same starter would fit it too...

I can't address the fitment of the side shield, as mine was already gone when I got the tractor.

And I would think the starter would fit a 4020, as the ring gear part number is the same.

Check out Abilene Machine. They have a nice planetary reduction in line unit that works with the side tin. $275 I think.
