JD 320 stuck engine

I've never had to try it but was told that it works. Maybe you don't have a steep enough hill!
Nothing against you, but your informant was full of beans. The hill would be no different then if you towed it and drug the tires. The force it takes to break the traction of the tires is all you get. Hang it over a cliff with the bottom of the rear tires chained back to trees, then you might be getting somewhere. It would also probably be fairly tough to retrieve the poor little dangling Johnny. :)

If you pulled the plugs. You should know if you have water in the cylinders. Removing the plugs would eliminate the hydro effect.

Does it not have a crank shaft pulley bolt that a breaker bar and socket could be used to apply a little rotational leverage?

With only a winter of sitting and a rain cap, are you sure it's the engine that's stuck? Have you tried turning it with the clutch disengaged?

Finally got it to move! Took head off and cleaned cylinders to make sure no water. Put ATF and Acetone in and let sit rocking wheel. Didn't budge so I got 2x4 and tapped with rubber mallet, moved a little, then taped other piston and it moved. Rolled wheel over and it moved through full cycle. Put starter back on and rolled it over with 12 volts and it spun good. Now I have to get a couple broken maifold bolts out and it can go back together. Can't feel any bad spots on cylinders.

Sometimes they come free. Well done. Jim

I bet the rings are stuck. Now is the time to drop the pan, pull the pistons, hone the cylinders and replace the rings.

Honestly, if it came loose with a rubber mallet and a 2x4, was it really stuck? I know, I know, I kid, I kid. Glad you got it loose!
