My book shows a #4 built in the mid-late 30s

To lend some credence to your post, instead of saying "may book says". WHY not simply mention the title of the book (such as Old Mowers Be Us 2000 by Jim Smith)???

On up to around the 1950 mark. In top shape worth over a $1,000.

Thanks, it will need some work, it has been out in the woods at least 40 years, I was thinking of digging it out.
