JD 40 color

Anybody know what color West Virginia's highway equipment was in the fifties? I have a 40U with a bracket that appears to be for a side mount mower. It says Detroit Harvester on it. It is green, but where ever the paint is scratched it is dark blue under it. It was bought near Parkersburg Wv.

I thought about that too. I don't know anything about the history of this tractor. I don't see many 40U's anyway.

This months Green Magazine has the 420 featured in it and it has a 420 pulling a fighter jet. I bet before the 420 the Air Force had the 40.Good chance yours was used in the Air Force.

Yes, that is about the right color.

That's good to hear. This tractor is a phase 3 420 "U" that's painted blue. Jeff Rottkamp has a 420 phase 2 that is also blue. We believe that they are New York State municipal tractors. They where shipped from industrial side of John Deere painted blue.
