JD 40 rear fluid

I use my JD 40 with a 5 foot brush hog to do pasture. Lately I've noticed a puddle of oil under the rear of the tractor. It is slowly
leaking from the unit under the seat somewhere. When I went to brush hog yesterday, the PTO did not want to turn. Also, what type of fluid
goes into the filler hole directly under the front of the seat frame. Thank you to all for your advice and recommendations.

Is this the push-on filler cap that you have to remove the seat to get to ?

If yes, put hydraulic fluid in - just about any variety will be OK

The TOM under the seat has nothing to do with the pto. It's just the hydraulic lift. 30wt non detergent oil works better and leaks less.

Can't help on the pto.

If you don't know what oil is in the TOM then I would drain what is in there and put in the non-detergent oil. If the unit is leaking it could be because the oil that is in the system is foaming and leaking out of spots it won't with the 30WT oil.

Is the PTO on the tractor not turning or the PTO on the mower? If the PTO is not turning on the tractor side of things then something is wrong inside of the tractor. Is there an overrunning clutch between the mower and tractor that could have failed?
