does anybody know if the john deere 40 was standard with one or two head lights? I've seen some with just a left light.

My first tractor was a JD 40 that my Dad gave me 30+ years ago, it was all original at the time and it had two headlights, out to kick my self for selling it

Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]FRONT LIGHTS AND WIRING HARNESS[/b:654c4848f0] diagram below.

Note in the description that 2 are used.

Take a look at the illustration below.

Note that the 40 Tricycle is shown without two headlights.

Also note that the 40 Standard is shown with two headlights.

Take a look at "BW" our 54 Model 40T.

Take a look at "Audie" our 54 Model 40S.

Hope this helps.

Mine was a 40T and came with two head lights when new, we?ve only got one picture of it that I can remember taken back in the mid 70?s when my Dad repainted it and put new decals on it, I?ll see if my Mom can find the pic and post it later

Checked some old brouchers for 40 and 420 models and in all cases electric lighting is an option, with 2 headlits and a combination white/red rear lite and a dash lite. Keep in mind some mounted implements may have required the removal of lites in order to function. So, yeah, if equipped for lighting, you should have 2 headlights.
