JD 40 U Steering Post

There appears to be a plug at the base of my steering post. However, it does not have any recess to remove it - smooth surface so, if it is suppose to be removable, perhaps someone broke it off. Anyway, it seeps oil. Is this suppose to be a drain plug? Thanks.

That's the wrung off set screw that holds the pipe in place so it can't be moved. It's supposed to be that way. Your leak will be the bushings and seal in the steering box. There's another at the bottom of the casting where your wrung off bolt is.

Thanks. It did not leak until I cleaned up the tractor to paint it. I guess a few oil leaks keeps some rust away.
