Jd 4020d battery

Just got the 4020d wireing fixed and starting again. One battery is good and one is bad I was told that on a 2 battery system it is better to replace both battery's at the same time. Is this true do I buy one battery or 2 battery's thanks for the help

You heard right. Buy 2 new batteries. Using one new and one old battery often causes problems with not charging evenly.

It would be my preference if BOTH batteries were matched in size, age, type, rating and brand etc. However thats not to say of course she cant still function otherwise. The starter and charging system operates with the two 12's in series (24 volt) and the current is no greater then the weakest battery can supply (so if one is old and weak that hurts starting performance). She also charges in series and its best to keep the two batteries loads balanced as much as possible but thats pretty much determinded by how mother Deere set it up.

Your tractor and your money but I have to recommend they both be equal. At the least have the old one load tested to determine its condition, again if its not bad she can still function with un matched batteries

Two batteries seem to be best.One JD parts man told
me that the battery that you put in will only be as
good as the one remaining of course they were
selling.I always buy two because one of the best
ways to lose a sale is a tractor that wont start.

Thanks for the replys I was planing on buying 2 I just needed u guys to prove a point to a guy I work with that I wasn't wasting money on a 2nd battery thanks for the help

Parts man was telling the truth. If the old battery has a weak enough cell, the stronger battery can cause reverse polarity and an explosion.
