I am looking at a 1973 4030 ,I have never seen one in person and know nothing about them, any info, good or bad would be great, thanks Jeff!!

They are a good tractor, in between a 3020 and a 4020 in size, the frame is a bit light for heavy loader work, nice chore tractor.

Good tractor. Bit weak in the engine, 329 cid with about 80 hp. But for a midsize tractor , it's hard to beat. I had one with a 148 loader, and would recommend a 158 if you can find one. I traded it on a 6400 with a loader for the mfwd. But we had few if any trouble with it, and it was the usual minor stuff. At times, I wish I had it back.

i got a 4030 with quad range and the soundgard cab very good dependable tractor good for feeding and running a feed wagon but it lacks power when running the 535 baler on the hilly ground around here i have baled close to 2000 1200lb bales in the last 3 years with mine but its just not made for that kind of work but for the price of them they are a good deal paid 12000 for mine with a 148 loader and 709 deere brush hog its been a good tractor and its a 80 hp tractor but its smaller size makes it handy to use

Nice tractor in 85+ horse power range.Good cab and hydraulics should have been called a 3030 then people would not have been let down when comparing it to the 404 in the 4020.The 4040s are a better choice but more money.

I have no experience with a 4030 and farm equipment because im not a farmer, however, we cut right of ways for the power company and used 4030s from the early 80's until about 2 years ago when we took out last one off the job. We ran them with a 6ft brown tree cutter. They ran 9-10hrs a day only stopping for lunch. And we bought all of them used after they were worn out to somebody else. We would freshen a motor or trans here and there but they were tough. We could put a man on one who had never been on a tractor and he couldnt tear it up. We still have two, one we still use around keeping roads clean, and arent afraid to put them back to work if our jd 6115 or tb 110 goes down. They were great for us and thats my experience with them....I wonder if our new tractors will still be running after 35 years of what we put the 4030s through.

Travz500 - I have been looking for a good 4030 also ...

Point 1 - not many available used must indicate that the current owners are holding on to them because they just flat work well. I see 5+ equivalent manheims on the market for every 1 of these.

Point 2 - were you running the air while running the 535? I would think an open station 4030 would be a great round baler tractor. My 2550 runs my 605H very well but can grunt a bit with a 6 footer in the baler. 15 more HP would be quite nice...
