Jd 410 backhoe brakes

I have a jd 410 backhoe that has a leaking, right wheel cyl. Has anyone ever replaced the seals in one of these? I understand it is quite a job.

First of all , you will have to troubleshoot whether the brake valve is leaking internally or if the brake piston is leaking past the sealing rings..Get yourself some JIC caps that fit the brake fittings at the brake valve..Disconnect the lines at the brake valve , install the JIC caps onto the fittings.. Bleed the caps/fittings so no air is in the brake valve..If the pedal still goes down , that tells me the brake valve is in need of repairs..If you have a good pedal , then the axle housing needs to be pulled to repair the leak..Seat , floorboards need to come off.Remove the tire .Remove the fender on the side thats leaking.Remove the crossmember that the seat bolts down to . Remove spacer , washers between the axle and upper mount.place wood blocks under transmission case , under backhoe mainframe , stabilizers down, backhoe bucket down..Remove either the front pin or rear pin from the 1 1/4 X 4..Place a bottle jack between the 1 1/4 X 4 bar and the loader frame just in front of the axle..Jack it up..Don't be afraid of bending anything , jack it up.. Remove the axle housing bolts, loosen the housing from center section..You might need to use a sledge hammer on it to loosen it side to side..Once it breaks loose, remove the brake disc and short shaft..Pull the axle housing out and tip it down till the axle flange contacts the floor.. Pry the piston ring out , reseal and reverse the procedure..

I agree with all you say. I will add, if brake master cyl/valve is good another possibility of low pedal/ poor brakes is that the brake disc linings are worn out. That is what I found on my neighbors 410. The poor pedal and poor braking was due to worn out brakes. The brake system did not move enough oil to give full braking unless you pumped them fast. I expected to find a leak or bypass of oil in the system based on the issues at hand , but new brakes fixed it.
