Will a JD 420 tricycle be a decent puller in stock class? Would be interested in your thoughts and experiences.

Thanks.

if you keep the front down they are real tough. we have a 420t and 430t we pull with in 4500, we have some fluid in tires and the 3 peice weights on the front. 4000 would be good if we drained the tires.

I like the little bugers, but for the same money you can have a winner in a Allis or a Oliver. That said I do pull a 435 JD. If you could make it 200 cu in and put 14.9 X 38 tires on it should be competitive. Vic

Good in the stock classes under 3 mph. However not a hope against a bored and stroked Farmall H or AC WD45 etc.
There is a late industrial version of the 440 industrial engine that was 33HP stock instead of the 420's 29HP.
One would be hard pressed to squeeze more than 40HP from the 440I engine.
At stock 1850 rpms a 435 with a built 2-53 is only a 45-50HP machine. Maybe 70-90HP if HD valve and cam follower springs are used and the engine over rev'd.
435's are heavy on the front. If the track is loose or wet there is no way to get the weight onto the rear wheels.
