I have 76 HD 4230 and need to get a loader on it but after having a Leon loader I dont want another junk loader. Been looking at jd 158's but they seem to be bringing top $ around me. I could get a jd 640 loader cheap off tractor that had a fire but dont know if it's possible to fit it to my 4230. And also would like to keep my rear remotes free and am not sure what I would need and how much it would be to add joystick or separate controls. Plz forgive my lack of knowledge. Any help is much appreciated!!!!

I think from viewing 640 parts catalog drawings for mounting brackets that 640 was built for smaller frame tractors than you 4230. I think that with the aid of a cutting torch & welder almost any loader can be mounted on any given tractor. You'll need to be sure control valve is for closed-center hyd system. Be sure loader is mounted low enough on tractor so bucket will lower to proper depth. The valve can be supplied hyd oil by teeing into RH side of tractor or utilizing a PBY block(see photo below) between scv & RS housing.

Thank you so much!! I can tell ya how much help you have been TxJim!! Your are so knowledgeable and willing to help and not be down grading. I could pick your knowledge bank for hours but I do thank you for the reply.. what would your reccomend I do for a loader? I'd like to be under 5K in total.

You're welcome & thank you. Where are you located?

Although not the greatest choice due to having only 1 bucket cylinder there's a JD model 48 listed in YT classified ads that's located in Wi(Ad Number: 908655).

I recently sold a Koyker 565 that would have fit your tractor nicely

I'm in IL but I have a brother that took a job about an hour from Dallas which he goes back and forth between here and there. I know of a jd 148 I could prob get for around $2000 but it hooks up using rear remotes. I'm not gonna lie I prob use my loader for more than i should, that's why I've been looking for one that is well built. I had a Leon loader on my 3020 and that was a pile!! Is the 158 that much stronger than the 148? And from the ones I've seen it looked like JD, Koyker and Allied were pretty beefy but I'm sure there are others that I haven't seen that are. Like always thank you so much for the reply!
