JD 430U oil pump timing

This may be a silly question But! When installing the oil pump on my JD 430 (#1 on TDC and thin side of the distributor gear to the outside) the distributor groove does not align quite parallel with the crankshaft as the manual describes. In one position the distributor rotor is points to 3:30. Advance one tooth and the distributor rotor points to 2:00. My question is which is correct position. Thanks in advance.

#1 post will be almost 3:00 with #2 just
before noon. Distributor wire post will
be about 5:15.

Check the rotor advance and be sure it
isn't stuck or the clock will be off a
little.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate the feedback. You just confirmed my thinking. Now I can put the oil pan on, throw some oil in it. Should have her fired up later today.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate the feedback. You just confirmed my thinking. Now I can put the oil pan on, throw some oil in it. Should have her fired up later today.

Since the distributor body can be "clocked" through 360 it can be positioned as needed to get firing order and timing correct, so other than for "purist" restoration reasons the drive position isn't at all critical to the operation of the engine, IMHO.
