JD 444H Plow

Hello, I just picked up this JD 444H 2-16" plow...any advice on setting it up would be appreciated!

Most JD plow operator's manuals have a section on properly setting up a plow. Don't have a 444H so can't really help you.

Only thing I can tell you is,you'll have to get a cylinder with a depth stop. If you try to use the one that's on it,you'll bury it half way to China.

Is it possible to add one of those aluminum clamp on depth stops? Or is that a bad idea?

That's what I have on all my cylinders. You stack them to get the depth you want. Its real easy to change the stack to change the depth.

You have a very rare plow there as it was mad at the end of 2 bottom pull type production. And yes you can use those donuts for depth control but you will need at least 2 packs, possibly 3 to get adjustment you need as you will probably need about 6-7" stack with needing 4" to fill the space between the cylinder housing and clevice fully closed. and then I am guessing 3" to get depth you will want. I and a 44H that is older version than yours and a 55H that was 3 bottom version. And just going on how much I would nave needed on them. But on a small diameter cylinder rod the donutes will be way loose unless you can put in thw filler rubber strips and a 2" cylinder would be plenty for that plow but probably have to go with a 3" cylinder and JD for that size plow used a 2.5" cylinder but dought you would find one that size. Larger cylinder means slower raise and lower and if you puta 4" cylinder on it and got a bottom cought under a strong root and tried to lift it then you could bend the frame.

This is NOT a 444, it is a 44H. The 444 has a rod to rear wheel and is supported in air by all three wheels when lifted. This one is not supported by rear wheel. Get a manual off e-bay and will make life real easy.

Randy,This is indeed a 444H plow. What you are thinking and describing is a 444AH plow.

I was able to get the operators manual through the JD Parts website...now I will be able to set it up. I have a 530 and my dad has a 520. I m hoping this will be a good match.

And you are correct sir. That's what happens when I stay up too late I guess LOL Basically a real late 44H with late full steel wheels as apposed to spokes on 44,s. Thanks for the correction.

Randy, The 444H had disc wheels and hubs with roller bearings and could come with trip standards. The 44H had spoke wheels with sleeve bearings, and solid standards.

You could pull that plow with a Late B. A 520 will hardly know it s back there. It s a very good match.
