JD 450C Drott Bucket

Finally found a Drott bucket that will fit my 450C. I'm told the crossover/relief valve that would normally be installed in the auxilliary hydraulic circuit which runs the clamshell is no longer available. As I understand it, the system relief will function while the clamshell is opening or closing so the only time the circuit would be at risk of overloading is when the clam is left opened and is not moving. And, worst case in that situation is that I'll blow a hose.

So, is assembling the circuit without the relief value a reasonable option or do I need to figure something else out?

Thanks!

Mark

Hi Mark: I had a 4-in-one Drott that was real bonus to using my crawler. I'd say that sooner or later you will forget that your trying to close on something that will take the pressure to the limit rather quickly... so adapting some kind of relief will save the day just when you really can not take time to fix it. "Murphys Law." Maybe another person will suggest a low cost subsitute?
By the way, I used mine to backfill and rough grade around new homes. It was on a MF 200 which had a 3 tooth scarfire(sp) on the rear for riping up old driveways etc. I could outwork almost any skid steer unit and the weight per sq foot did not overload any new basement walls (expensive if you bust one) I put a little larger teeth on mine. The clam open was great at getting piles of dirt under or out of under outside mounted decks where heigth was limited. That 4 in one was a real handy unit. Good luck. ag

Hyd shops sell stand-alone relief valves that you could plumb into any line. google "Central Hydraulics".

I have a crossover relief valve on my snowplow..But on plows , they're called cushion valves.. A single casting with a pair of relief valves , internal porting to relieve pressure from one side to the other..They come in various pressure ratings or , I've seen adjustable reliefs too...I use "surplus centers" for my hydraulic needs .Catalog on website

Hydraulics are certainly not my strong point...

I'm still trying to figure out the differences between "relief", "cross0ver", "dual crossover" and "cushion" valves.
