I’m looking to put auto steer on my 4640 which will be used for tillage and planting. I’ve got pricing from a JD dealer and here’s the breakdown:

Used Starfire 3000 - $2500
Used Brown box with SF2 - $2500
New ATU 200 - $1400
Wiring harnesses/Brackets/Installation - $1800

Does this pricing sound about right? Does anyone out there have a complete guidance system for sale that would fit this tractor?

I guess real parts sites are blocked buy this site

Do you have other JD GPS equipment??? If not look at Ag leader. it seems to be more user friendly and usually costs less.

I thought auto steer was a bungie cord from the steering wheel to the seat so the tractor keep going straight. That how we picked up hay as kids.

my 2 cents .
6 years ago i decided to buy a jd auto steer system.
it was pricey but will never regret it.
my father was reluctant to have it installed and didnt think it was a good investement.
now he will not go to the field with out it.
i now have 3 systems and wish i had another.
i have equipped 7 machines now to handle it and want to have a couple more machines adapted to it.
you have to remember its a long term investement and its like any other electronic device. you get what you pay for.
if you are mechanically inclined you can install the wireing and the top reciever bracket yourself and save a pile of $$
thats what i did.
i started with a star fire and eventually had 3, they are coming down in price and 2500 is to much. i traded in my 3 to the new 6000 models and got more that that for trade
ins. i would not invest in a brown box. there is the 2630 monitor and that is a great monitor you just have to get use to the lay out of it.
i will guarantee u will use this system for more that you are expecting.
spreading fertilizer is a dream when you have gps.
as well as spraying.
anything row crop is amazing and i figured it saved me an extra hired man.
i would suggest spending a little extra on the monitor because the brown box will be shortly faded out, and do some of the wiring and mounting yourself. it will give you some
experience to do the next machine, trust me you will be.
