JD 466 Round Baler

I think in the mid to late 90's but I don't have a book listing yrs built. The sorriest baler I ever owned was a 466 Mega-wide pickup. The design of the shaft that operated the feeder fingers was not one of JD engineers better ideas. It has plastic half brgs(parts key #4) that won't last especially if baling in sandy soils. This crankshaft had wear on it about the thickness of a penny in 10,000 bales. It was aggravating to be baling along and one or more sets of the feeder fingers fell of in the field. IMHO 467/468 balers are much better.

Model 466 was built from 1997 - 2001. Subsequent balers, xx7 &
xx8 series were a bit better machines. However, I wouldn't buy a
used baler that has been left outside, unless someone gave it to
me..and even then I would be cautious.

After owning/operating 466 & 467 I think 467 is a lot more than a little bit better. The design of the feeder fingers on the XX7 is much better. I agree from what my neighbor states that the XX8 isn't much improvement over the XX7.
