JD 5020 gearbox trouble

We"ve bought a jd5020 from the usa, and were never able to try the gearbox, engine was gone already. we replaced the engine, did got it running, but the gearbox isnt good. the only way to get it in neutral is putting it in "tow". the constantmesh doesnt get out of it"s low gear. even if i put the shift lever in reverse, it doesnt come out of low gear, and so it is in two gears at the same time.
Is there someone who knows what to do? is this a common problem?

With Kind regards,

It sounds likes the transmisson was 'towed' with-out the transmision being in the tow posistion, If this is what happened it gaulds the upper pinion gear to the top shaft, I had one to work on one like that about 15 tears ago,,had to 'torch' the upper shaft out ,it was "so" stuck that it would not come out any other way,the top shaft was junk at that point anyway,I hope your's is not that bad,,but it could be...

Thank you Tim, i think that must be it. one of the synchronizer halfs on the input shaft seems to be blue, from heat.
i hope both topshaft and input shaft would come out without remove the 3pt hitch. but i'm afraid they dont.

You will need to remove the rock shaft (3 pt) and split at the trans. clutch houseing, It's a big job. I hope the shaft will come out with out useing the cutting torch..

i was afraid of that already... i think i do need to use the cutting torch, if 300 horses couldnt do the job.... the tractor is split between gearbox and clutch housing already. i only need to remove the rock shaft now.
thanks for you help :)

Hallo Robin,
I just finished reinstalling the countershaft in my 6030. Had it repaired. There is no way that shaft comes out without removing the rockshaft (Het hefdeksel dus) I made the special tool myself to remove the bearing on the back end of the rockshaft. I only live 200 km away from you, if you need some advise e-mail or call me, let me know.
Groeten Coen.

Thank you all for you help!
i've got both shafts out now, very easy and fast operation. Now we need to get the gear seperated from the shaft...
we are looking for a used shaft and gear now, so if someone knows one.....
