Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Have not been on site for quiet a while.I have a 5105 JD that I used this summer and parked it in the shed and had left it with a single bottom plow and I did not lower it to the ground just forgot. So I was going to take the plow off and can't get it to lower down. started the engine to warm up but did not help. Also checked the site glass for fluid level and looked good. As far as I know the fluid has never been changed, don't know if that would make a difference. Have another tractor that has a bucket on and used it to put extra weight on it but did not help. Would appreciate any recommendations Thanks Larry

Those 5000 series model tractors have a long history of rockshaft control valve getting rusty/dirty not allowing 3 pt to lower. Have you tried Googling for a solution. They're couple other tractor discussion forums such as Tractor by Net or Green Tractor Talk that pertain to this problem

Mine did this about a week ago. Time flys so it may of been 2 weeks ? I posted a step by step guide of what I had to do to mine. Try an archive search in the JD forum under my ID and 5105 in the title.

Mike I tried to find your thread in the archive section searched under Mike M and 5105 do you know about what page number it might be located on? Thanks

Started a new thread with problem in title so maybe others can find in future. I got it working again today. Remove the seat assembly.(15 mm socket). Tie or block the hitch up as when taking apart a lot less oil will come out. The rate of drop adjusting T handle is on a cap on the front side of the rockshaft housing. Remove this cap by removing the 3 allen screws. ( 5 mm wrench size ) After cap is off in the lower hole there is a spool valve. It has a hex head you can grab with pliers and wiggle it out. This spool has another spool inside of it and a spring in the bottom behind it. Mine the inner spool was stuck ? I stood it on end hex head down and then tapped on the end of the inner spool with punch and hammer. Oil squirted out and it then popped up and would move in and out. Pulled this all apart cleaned and oiled it up then put it all back together. Seems to work fine now as it did before. Not sure why it quit working ? everything looked clean ? But I had left 3pt in the up position without using it for several years. I'm going to try leaving it in the down position and run it up and down everytime I do use the tractor. I mainly only use the loader.

Hope this helps..

jsborn found it !
Mine was not really rusted or dirty ? I'm thinking leaving them up somehow extra oil pressure gets trapped in there and can't get out ?

I really appreciate you guys help. It's suppose to be warmer this weekend so I'll try to tackle that job. I read another thread where they said to turn the t handle in and out several times and it might free up. I've had another problem with the 5105jd diesel where the fuel tank gets down to about half full and the engine shuts down. I can fill it back up and prime it and starts and runs ok. I believe the fuel gage is working properly. It shows full and will get to about half and shut down. Have you guys ran across this problem with 5105's Thanks Larry
