JD 60 3pt looses pressure

My JD 60 looses pressure under a load running or not running. When I have an implement on it the 3Pt slowly lowers when in the up position and when the tractor is shut off the 3pt will drop quicker. I have the rock shaft assembly off and the cylinder and piston out. The piston and O ring look good as well as the gasket for the cylinder. The power troll is also apart and don't see any crud inside the unit. Im wondering if the throttle valve or release valve or the spring i bad. Is there a way to check them or should I purchase new ones or is there something else that may be causing this problem? Thanks for any help

I'm replying mostly because I think that a new user of the forum should be acknowledged. I don't think that I can help you with your problem other than to mention that Deere has a good service manual on the hydraulics for those tractors. My manual is out in the shop and I can't remember the SM number. If you need the number I will get it for you. I remember one of the mentioned tips being a cracked cylinder, but you would have noticed your transmission over filling if that was your problem. Please keep us posted on what you find.

Thanks for the reply. I have an operator and parts manual but I can't find my service manual. May have to get another one. I read a thread on this forum a few years ago where someone asked the same question as me and I don't remember the exact response but I believe it had something to do with the power troll check valves. The operator manual says to the inner or outer check valves may be leaking or piston rings may be damaged or leaking. The piston and cylinder look ok and it took a lot of air pressure and wd40 to get the piston out of the cylinder. The parts book shows an O ring and a Washer, Piston Backing (Paper) installed on the piston. There was only an O ring on the piston when I pulled it out. I plan on installing new washer and O ring as well as the check valves and balls in the power troll. Just hopping someone out there has any other ideas of what I need to do before it goes back together again.

There are some little parts that have to be oriented properly. On my JD 50, I found one part in the PowerTrol valve that was installed backwards. I had other problems, so I don't know if that part was causing the problem or if it was a contributing factor to the problem. The service manual was a necessity for me. A good mechanic could probably live without it, but I am not a good mechanic. My JD 50 PowerTrol works perfectly now, thanks to advice from the folks on this forum and the JD service manual. I hoped that others on this forum would chime in on your post. We have some very knowledgeable people who lurk here. Keep us posted. We all learn from each other.

The paper o-ring backer that you mentioned - I really worried about installing that paper ring, but when I started working on it I discovered that there was a deep groove in the piston that the paper would drop into and allow it to be put in place without damaging the paper.

The proper service manual is SM2011.

I found my service manual and have reviewed the section for the power trol. I have everything apart and cleaned, inspected and ready to put back together. I have new parts but have not gotten to the part of putting the power trol back together yet. Matter of fact the whole tractor is torn apart. I read somewhere where someone said to double up on the cylinder gasket and permetex a piece of screen between them due to the oil pressure blowing out the gasket. Don't know if I'm going to try that or not. Its going to take some time before I get the tractor back together and will update you on how it works when I'm done

On my 50, I dialed the relief valve pressure down a couple hundred PSI. It's my mowing tractor, and it only needs to lift a New Holland sickle mower. Even with the pressure dialed down it will still lift the front wheels off of the ground if I overload the three point.

That sounds pretty good. Before I tore my tractor apart I could lift a 1000lbs bale of hay with no problem with the power trol. After the rebuild I'm hopping that the problem of the three point slowly dropping with be corrected. Thanks for the info
