JD 60 question.

I’ve been working on a 60 that I picked up a couple months ago. Getting to the end of the list of things to do on it. My question is about two brackets that are on the axle housing. They are for an attachment of some kind obviously but I’m wondering which attachment??

There are some marks inward from each bracket that shows where something else was and that may be the answer. A full photo of the platform area would help to figure it out. Could it possibly be an extension to the "small" factory platform since that platform is somewhat higher than the axle casting?

I talked to a good friend of mine this morning. He’s a life long John Deere man. He thinks those brackets are for the sunshade that had the two support rods in a V shape from the axle housing. That could be right as well. As for the other bracket and mounting hole in the axle they are Definetly for cultivators mowers etc. and other attachments.

Here’s a couple pictures with the bracket removed on the left hand side.

I'm inclined to agree with others- Burch Heat Houser. They may still be in business, but I couldn't get their site to open. I did find this image, which seems to show what you have.

On a side note, I was amused to see the Roll-A-Matic decal on the front of a single-front-wheel tractor!

I've always been amused at how many people put those where they don't belong!
You know what’s even more amusing is when I bought the tractor it actually had a wide axle on it. A friend of mine wanted the wide axle and I wanted a single wheel so we made a swap after I picked up the single wheel set up. I knew where there was a couple of them.

I agree with others that what is shown by the OP is some sort of heat houser bracket. I have both NOS Heat Houser canvas and the Hinson Weather break John Deere sold. The heat houser is model HC-100 which fit many different models including the John deere G & GM. Fits my 70D ok. I also have original instruction sheets the mice left behind.

Thank you for that. Even as a kid i don’t remember seeing tractors around here with heat housers on them. Home made cabs then factory cabs later on and of course lots of layers of clothing when really cold. 😃

That is a great piece of history (NOS item and documentation) to have. A friend has a 520 that still has the manifold guards mounted, but not any of the rest of the heat houser.

A very interesting article about Burch Manufacturing Co. of Fort Dodge, Iowa. As the article says Heat Housers are still being sold !!!!
