JD-60 Water Pump

its easy too rebuild.. go to deere and get the rebuild kit shaft,seal,bearing... find a shop that has a press. it will only take few minutes to do

Parts should be readily available from Deere and a local repair shop or machine shop with a little mechanical ability and a press can do the work for you.

I just did one for a customer's 720 diesel, about the same pump, no biggy!

"it will only take few minutes to do"

Unless the guy doing it has some experience with water pumps, it's better to take it SLOW and EASY and CAREFUL so as not to break the housing.

Scott,
There is a rebuilder on ebay that has rebuilt ones ready for shipping for about $95. They will charge you $30 for your core. Here is the item number. #260681479937. Double check yoru casting numbers ont he pump body and pulley as he has two options. I purchased one for my 60 restoration and it looks pretty good and they ship pretty quick as well.

Hope this helps-

Gordon

ive done 4 in past yr...it takes a bit to clean them up nice, i dont have a press so i take them to a guy and he presses them out and in for me, but its pretty quick maybe 30 mins to do one...he charges me $25 and kit from deere is $40 to $50 depending on what its for

Add shipping of the pump and the core and it gets expensive compared to simply having it done locally!

Thanks fellahs for your help. I had purchased a bering and seal kit from John Deere. I put it back together and it still leaked. I took it back apart this morning and took the pump housing to my machinest. He machined the area where the carbon washer runs. It had a lot of rust pits in it. He machined .018 off and it is now nice and smooth. I ordered another seal kit because I broke and ear off the carbon washer when I took it apart again. I should get my new parts Monday and have it going again. Knowing what I know now, I would just send it to someone to rebuild if I had it to do again. Thanks again for your input. Scott

I have had trouble keeping that washer in place when going back together, if it's out of line a bit it breaks, and you don't know it till you put the water back in,,Darn it,,,,
