Jd 620 gears shift

Have jd 620 can only move gearshift between about two gears wondering what I will find and what to look for after I remove cover over gears? Thanks for any and all ideas.

I'm no expert and only had experience with my own 620 & 520. The knob at the bottum of the shift lever gets worn and also the shifting blocks where the lever contacts is worn so it seems they don't quite make contact long enough to do what they're supposed to. you can weld them up and smooth them down again and they should be ok. check on the little detents to see if they are ok. They need to snap in to hold it in gear. There are other poeple on here that can explain this much better and also they know much more about it. This is what I found and it worked for me.
