I have a 1958 jd 620 it had oil pressure when I parked it, I pulled the oil pressure guage to put on another 2cilynder and when I started it again in the evening it had no oil coming out of the line to the guage, could it have drained the oil out of the line and unprimed the pump :?: any help would be appreciated thanks

Oil pump sits in the very bottom of the crankcase. I can't imagine the pump loosing prime. I'd take the crankcase cover off and make sure the pump is still turning. If water gets in the bottom and freezes the pump, the square coupler on the oil pump drive shaft coming down from the cam shaft can break. While the cover is off check for any broken oil lines.

Ok there could have been a bit of gas in the oil but I drained it now and the oil was still thick so dont think the problem was there also no water in the oil but will check as suggested

Another thing while you're in there is make sure there's nothing plugging up the screen around the oil pump. I fond a piece of wood that was chewed up into splinters all over inside the crankcase on mine. Never know what you might find inside these old tractors.

Thanks I checked as suggested the shaft was turning,I had drained the oil because I thought I smelled gas in it after I had no oil pressure and so I filled it back up and tried it,it took a while but I do have good oil pressure, I had 20/50 oil in before and lucas oil additive and I think it was too thick for the winter, took it too long to build up pressure, thanks

If your 620 has the oil pressure activated sediment bowl now is the time to replace the diaphragm above the sediment bowl with a new ethanol resistant diaphragm. A perforated diaphragm can let gas drain down into your crankcase while the tractor is just sitting around. Roberts Carburetor in Spencer Iowa is one place that I know sells ethanol resistant diaphragms. If you don't have this type of shutoff and have a manual valve to shut off the gas then you probably have a leaking needle and seat in the carb. Maybe you know all this already but just in case..........

www.greenpartsofva.com also sell the alcohol resistant diaghragms. Much better to deal with than Roberts.

If you Google the site youwill find a list of dealers greenpartsofva sells through. It appears they do not sell direct off the website but theydohave a number to call. SorryI did not see any dealers in Va on their list.
