I have a 1994 JD 6200 that when I start it, it will run about 15-20 seconds then shut off. I have to crank it for a while before it will run again. It is almost like it ran out of diesel but I do not have to bleed the system to get it to run. Has anyone had that happen? Also I would like to add a second SCV to it. What is involved and where can I find the used parts to do it?

Thanks.

A friend has a 6400. It likes to develop slow leaks in the fuel filter "head" area (fittings and hoses).

Then, when it sits a day or two, a little air will sneak in, and it will act as you describe.

To make things WORSE, the 6400 has an electic fuel pump IN THE TANK, at the end of the fuel pickup tube, like a modern car. You have to drain the tank, and slide it out from under the cab to replace it! We've replaced it TWICE since he's had it.

I don't know exactly how similar the 6200 is, but that's a a couple of things to check out!

Thanks. The 6200 is the same with the fuel pump in the tank. It seems to be working OK but I am going to check on the filter and fittings.

this is extremely common on all 6000"s. easy fix though. deere sells a check valve for the fuel line. most tractors even had one in from the factory, but sometimes the ball in the valve breaks apart. just go into the dealer and tell them you want a fuel check valve for a 6200. if they don"t know what your talking about let me know, i"ll get you the part number.

i forgot the second part of your question. all you need to add an scv is the lever, the cable. and the scv plate. its a little tricky installing the scv plate/valve, what with getting the dime valves in the right place and all, and getting the draw bolts right, but it should only take an experienced tech about an hour.

I have a 6200 that had almost the same problem. Sometimes if would not even start if left sitting for several days. Either cranking it for longer than I liked or a little ether was the only way it would start. Was worse when the tank was almost empty on fuel. We fixed the problem by changing out the hoses on the fuel lines. I guess with age they were sucking up together. Fixed the problem.
