JD 6410 starter removal

Anybody tried this? No room to get at the lower bolt. Finally got it out using a long extension with a crow's foot on the end. A very, very slow process - there must be a better way. Does John Deere make a special tool for this purpose?

Some things must never change. Sounds like JD still can't make a starter removal a simple thing.

Hell, it ain't only Deere. Had major problems gettin a starter off an friend's Agco- White last fall, same problem.

Yes Read above...I made me one from 2 3/8 sockets..one the proper size to fit nut(12 pt), the other just close to same dia . lay them side by side and weld.. use a long extension and ratchet...is nut is rounded up make one using six pt...

Does it have a loader too? I had to do one with a loader and it took about all day to take it off and replace. I put a gear reduction starter on and hopefully will have no more trouble.

How did you get the bolt back in?? I have a 2130 and it's nearly impossible to get that bolt in, even. with my special extension tool. There's a ground cable that the bolt goes through and then both have to be guided into a hole you can't see, all the while the bolt magically staying on the end of the tool. It's a nightmare, and I after several efforts, I came here....

So, here's my idea. Cut the head off of a longer bolt and thread that in so it acts like a stud. Put the cable on top of that. Then, insert the starter over the new "stud" and bolt it to the top stud, which an engineer was smart enough to make accessible. And then cross my fingers that the "stud" doesn't come out. And if it does... is it really needed if the top bolt is holding it firmly in place?
