JD 6620- fingers

I have a JD 6620.There is a piece missing from what the parts diagram calls a Cover. When I removed it to repair it I noticed there was a part in the parts diagram called the Fingers which appears to be absent. I am assuming the piece broke off because it was not supported by the Fingers. Parts diagram does not show exactly how things go together...but assuming these parts are sandwiched together. (Cover #2 in diagram and fingers #5.) Does that sound right?

Back in the day that was called a ''thistle screen'' and was an option on many machines.

I wonder if any more detail is shown if you drill down through the menus at the DEERE parts site?

Thanks Wore Out! I will look closer through the parts diagrams. When I cleaned up the Cover I noticed these marks where the paint was worn away, so apparently there was a Fingers assembly there at one point. This piece looks a lot newer than other parts on the machine, so I suspect it came from another machine. I'll crawl back in there again and take a closer look at things:)

I just had that assembly removed on our 6620 for replacing the rubber seal that rides above it. Yes the fingers support the cover and the two get sandwiched together.

Looks like that rubber seal is torn on the right side. Highly recommend replacing that while you're in there because you'll get corn in the cleaning fan. Rubber seal is listed on the shoe auger pan parts page.

John-

Thanks so much for that picture, and information! VERY Helpful! I will replace the rubber seal you pointed out, and find a finger assembly.

The Fingers and Cover sandwich seems kinda odd to me...not sure why it is designed that way.

Thanks Again!!

The cover assembly is not necessarily used in all crops. I think mainly corn if I remember right. Our 7720 does not have the cover it just has the fingers. That combine only does beans though. So my understanding is the fingers are always supposed to be there but the cover assembly used on certain crops.

Hard to say but in your case I wonder if someone had problems keeping grain out of the cleaning fan and decided they needed to add the covers but took the fingers out not knowing they just get sandwiched together.

Thanks for that added information John! I just use this combine for small grains, mainly rye, oats and millet. And from what I know that is what the machine was used for before I got it several years ago.

Maybe others that do small grains with a 6620 will comment on their set up.

Thanks Again for the information!
