JD 730 brake drum

I removed the brake assemblies from my 730 to replace the shoes. The right side brake drum popped off when I dropped the assembly from about 4 feet onto a piece of wood just I like I saw in the video on you-tube. When I tried dropping the left assembly, the drum didn't budge ,,, nothing. I tried dropping it another 5 or 6 times with no affect. I then soaked it in PB Blaster and let it sit overnight and tried again to drop it, and again without success. Then I took a mapp gas torch and heated it for about an hour and still nothing. Then I rented a large three prong puller and tighten it with an impact wrench and still nothing moved . I unscrewed the brake adjustment thinking the shoes were holding it in, but still nothing. Finally I balanced the drum on it's edges between two stacks of wood beams and hit it with a sledge hammer and still nothing moved. I am at a lost on what to try next. Anybody have any suggestions?

This is one method that has worked on our Model 70.

Take a look at the diagram below.

Note the grease fitting(Key 17), lever shaft(Key 14), and cam(Key 27).

Grease/oil the lever shaft and make sure it moves freely.

This will help engage and loosen the brake shoes from the bottom if necessary.

Once the lever shaft moves freely, [b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]tighten[/b:654c4848f0][/i:654c4848f0] the adjusting screw until it is snug.

Caution: do not over-tighten the adjusting screw.

This will expand the brake shoes from the top if necessary.

Place the brake drum face down.

Use your favorite penetrate [b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]l i b e r a l l y[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0] completely around the edges to soak the brake pads.

Use a small hammer to "[i:654c4848f0]tap[/i:654c4848f0]" completely around the brake drum.

Repeat this process several times.

Once the brake pads have been thoroughly soaked with penetrate, [b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]loosen[/b:654c4848f0][/i:654c4848f0] the adjusting screw until it stops.

Engage and disengage the lever shaft until the brake shoes move freely.

Place the brake drum face up.

Note the brake shaft with nut(Key 2) in the diagram above.

Use your favorite penetrate [b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]l i b e r a l l y[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0] completely around the edges to soak the splines of the shaft and drum.

Once again use a small hammer to "[i:654c4848f0]tap[/i:654c4848f0]" completely around the brake drum close to the end of the shaft.

Repeat this process several times.

Install the brake assembly on the tractor.

While rotating the brake drum, use a small use a small hammer to "[i:654c4848f0]tap[/i:654c4848f0]" the edge of the brake drum until it comes off.

Hope this helps.

I've done some pretty nasty ones on parts tractors that sat out for years and the dropping technique always worked. So I have no more suggestions. Sorry.
