JD #8 Mower

I've been trying to find replacement rock guards for my mower, but the replacements and aftermarket ones don't fit correctly. The offset is too much, so the sections don't sit on them. the cutter bar is installed correctly and the hold down clips are set also. Plus they're cast, so can't be adjusted. Same for the ones bought through the local JD dealer. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have good used guards to sell? I'm a hobby person restoring the mower, so won't give it much use other than mowing the side of the road, but would like it to cut correctly. Thanks for any inputs!

Are you sure it is a #8 mower. DelteRed gave me that same question about a plow I was rebuilding. Parts ordered would not fit. Turned out that I did have a different plow than I thought. Parts matched right up after that.LOL

Guards and hold-downs are both adjustable. By bending. Guards have been pretty much universal for years. Unless you are trying to mix double haybine guards (that have their own wear plate) with the old single style guards that use a replaceable wear plate.

If your mower guards are the old style with riveted in ledger plates and you are mixing the new gaurds with snap in ledger plates they will work but not real well. There is a diffrents.
