JD 830 pony motor

I am in the process of reassembling the the transmission and clutch housing assembly to the pony motor. What do you need to do in order to get the splines of the clutch shaft to engage with the hub of the clutch disc? Thank You.

The SM2021 for the 820/830/840 section 65-20 pages 1-10 lists numerous clearances, items to check and several diagrams/images. More than what a few sentences here can do justice to.
Nothing particular however in the service manual regarding assembly except the proper order and alignment .

What I've done is center the clutch hub the best I can by eye, tighten up the adjustment screws so it stays in place. Then slide everything together and rotate the shaft if necessary. I don't think I've had too many issues when I do that

Hello Brandon, I ended up cutting a short 3/4" piece of the end of a hammer handle because of it's rounded shape. I split in half and then into 1/4. I shaped it a bit and then wedged it between the clutch cover and the clutch adjusting disc to hold the clutch disc centered. Then it went together easy. Now I'm ready to install. Thanks again for taking the time to share your knowledge with me. All for now, Larry.

Hello Brandon, I have one more problem that I need your help with. It has to do with the three wires that comes from the ignition switch and go to the starter and magneto. One wire goes on the solenoid with the cable from the battery and that is not a problem. Another goes on the solenoid by itself and the other goes to the distributor. How can I determine which wire goes to the solenoid by itself and which goes to the distributor. Again thank you for any help you can provide. All for now, Larry.
