JD 830 Remote Cylinder

Working on a remote cylinder with a casting number R2635R for an 830 (2 cylinder). The parts book shows it had 5/8 hoses. My farm store supplies 1/2 or 3/4 hose. The 3/4 hose gets pretty bulky to handle. Should I have any concern on using 1/2 ID hoses?

Other than not looking right today's 1/2 inch hoses would handle any load applied in terms of an 830 hydraulic system to that cylinder. For that matter if used with a NG tractor the hose would not be a problem but maybe the cylinder itself in terms of a high pressure system.

Are the fittings in cyl #10 boss? May have not even used Boss fittings or knew what they were back then. Just thinking out loud.

Those cylinders have pipe thread fittings. I use a couple of them on my JD 2-cyl tractors with 1/2 hose and they work fine. That series of cylinder came out long before the 830 tractor and was used on most of the 2-cyl JD tractors.

If you've had that thing apart, be sure to torque the living crap out of those half inch bolts that hold the back on. All there is is a gasket between the two parts and if it's not super tight, it'll blow that gasket right out the side of it in a hurry.

My concern is a volume issue not a pressure issue. This cylinder has a large bore so it will need a lot of fluid to make it work. I was more concerned about the time to transfer the needed fluid to lift the cylinder.

On the tractors, JD AR and JD 820, that I use, the cylinders work quite quickly, but I am using a little smaller cylinder than you
show but the difference should be minor.
