Why did the 830, or the 820 never have the option to have a three point hitch like the other 2 cylinders?

The 820/830 were Deere's biggest tractors at the time and used mainly in Wheatland farming as opposed to row-crop farming. The equipment used in Wheatland was drawbar drawn and not 3-point mounted.

ok since this was brought up ill take it one step further, has anyone ever looked into the possability of bolting a rockshaft housing from a 720/730 onto a 820/830 and adding a 3 point? obviously there would have to be modifications to a lot of parts im sure to make it look half way decent but is it even possible?

I have been around this business 15 years as A Deere Employee, Two Cylinder Club member and retiree for 10 years and have had the same thoughts about a 3-point hitch for the 820/830 but have never seen one. Good luck in your search. Please post it on here if you figure out a way to do it.

I would think you'd have to make some pretty serious modifications to the platform. It sits further back and lower on the 830 than the 730.

Yes, platform, seat, and hitch frame would take lots of mods to name a few.

When Deere introduced the 820 in '57 I don't think they saw any real demand for a row crop 820/830.

Besides they were hard at work in designing, testing and building the New Generation series which had the row crop option available in all 4 models. The 4010 replaced the 830.

In the UK there are towed toolbars which have a 3 point on them. They were designed to be towed by crawler tractors that did not have linkage fitted. Do you have such things over the pond?

Obviously you need an 830 with at least single hydraulics!

Thanks for your response from the UK. I have been looking (not full time) 25 years for an 830 3 point hitch. Have not seen anything like you describe. Is there any way you could get us a picture(s)?

At the AG dealership I worked at in the 90's, we had a 3pt hitch setup that had it's own electrohydraulic pump and was pulled by a truck. We could deliver row crop cultivators (turned sideways on a pivoting base) and semi mounted plows. It had a fairly long tongue tho... I'm pretty sure we could turn a 8 row cultivator sideways. Don't remember if we had 12's back then.

The Amish do a little bit of that here on a much smaller scale the horse will pull a 2 wheel cart with an engine and hydraulic pump then the 3 point implement behind that there was actually a catalog a buddy had who owned draft horses ordered things out of from time to time.

The hydraulics if it doesn’t have them is pretty easy if you have a 12 battery especially that’s how I dump my scrap wagon I have a pump in the back of my pickup mounted on a pallet from northern tool and just run the cables up front to the battery. It then has a switch that I can stand back and hit. Better than them beating up my wagon with the magnet. It is single acting so float and raise are my 2 options which would work for most things but some tractor things you would want to spend the money on a 2 way pump.

Found them I and J manufacturing its called a forecart. Most are for adding a pto and only one axle but there is a 2 axle heavy duty one at the bottom of their website that says 12 volt lift 1500 lbs capacity. For the price you could buy a very nice 730 but that's not what you asked. Feel free to skip the operator seat.

Amish carts and attachments
