JD 870 Power Steering

My sister has a John Deere 870 with a loader and backhoe. I'll have to get the manual, but does the power steering have a separate sump from the hydraulic system? The reason I ask is that the hydraulics seem to be ok, but the power steering acts like it's starving for fluid. I haven't looked into it yet, but I figured someone here could get me started in the right direction

It appears from viewing 870 parts catalog that power steering has a separate pump from other hyd functions. Has hyd oil level been checked lately? Has hyd oil strainer been checked lately & hyd filter changed?

Thanks. No - I just picked it up. Her husband died a few years ago, so I'm sure it hasn't been maintained since. I'll find the reservoir and make sure it's topped off for now, then get the book and go through it
