JD 9400 problems

Made it 200ft into the corn and had a funny noise come from underneath and behind me. Lost my fan speed also. Get out and there is a huge pile of corn on the drive side in the fan. Could not see for sure where it came from. Any ideas??

Did you forget to open up your sieve? If you did the extra corn going over it could overwhelm the tailings elevator.

Tailings elevator has an alarm on 9400 have set if off before. Surprised you didn't get an alarm 9400 is pretty well sensored. Did you have any knocking? Is fan housing intact? With todays yeilds it might be possible to overwhelm the elevators on a 9400 but you need to be driving real fast in real heavy corn. What was the moisture?

Is this your first field of the season? Would there be a possability that you forgot to put the plate on underneath your unloading auger and the corn fell into the fan housing.

See my post below, "JD combine won't will again" and you will see what can happen. On my 6620 Titan 2 the panel in front of the chaffer broke loose and wound around the shaft that drives the shaker. I found that I had a problem when I heard a rumbling under the thresher and when I looked there was corn in the fan housing from a hole that was punched through the fan shroud.
I ended up replacing the fan housing and some supporting metal for a parts cost so far of $1500.00 plus labor. I could have gotten away a little cheaper by not replacing all of the metal parts and bearings but since it was already removed I couldn't see putting it back together and paying again to have it fixed.
I hope that your problem is not as bad and that you just forgot to close a door as suggested by others. Keep us posted. and LOL

I would also check that the fan elements are clamped securly to the shaft. I have seen this before. The shaft will run at proper speed but the fan isn't and the shaft sensor won't know the difference

Finally got off my day job to see what is wrong. The precleaner, chaffer and sieve are all open a little wider than what the book says. All the plates are on also. I will let you know what I find.

Well I think the corn in the fan was due to the fan loosing its speed and corn overflowing the sieves. The noise that I heard is the clutch for the head and feeder house. If you turn it by hand you can feel it rubbing on something inside. Is it a pain to tear apart?

check your shoe grain augers and auger trough, corn in the fan is a sign of them being wore thru
