JD 970 oil

Just bought a JD 970 without a manual. There is a small oil reservoir attached to the front of the injector pump. There is very little oil in it.
Could someone tell me what oil and how full it should be?? Thanks up front!!

The good news is real factory manuals can be ordered from 1-800-522-7448 . On CD or hard copy. Lots of other important info inside.
Deere lists a parts manual for free on their web site.

Hopefully somebody can help but I'd definitely get a factory manual cooking and read it you might be surprised what you might Learn even if you have owned the tractor a long time

The oil cap is at the end of the dow rod...
It looks very low to me...

Several of the Yanmar engines I have seen have an engine oil fill on top of the motor and on the side like you show.
