JD A in light weight classes

How light can you make a JD A? What are the best years to make a light weight puller from? Is it possible to get one down to 4000LB. class? I would like to what you have done to get them light. I"m not worried about the power right now, thats for later.

4000# is easy. My "38 A weighted 3540# with me on it this spring, with 14.9"s. Dubbed the "Alumin-A" by Cody Shellum.

I actually made 3500# once with a '41, and there's more weight to remove, although it'll get expensive (hollow axles, aluminum wheels, lighter brakes, aluminum hitch, wheelis bars. I couldn't balance it there, but could at 3750#. Mike

Mine made 3500# with NO aluminum (anything) or hollow axles. What I was trying to say was to get to 3300# so you can balance it in the 3500# class, you need some pricy stuff. Mike

If possible I would like to see a picture of this tractor and any information about lightening them you could give would be a big help. The club I pull with starts at 3750LB. We had a couple A's pull 4000lb. and neither could balance them. Thats why I wondered about pulling them below 4500lb.

Do a search.. I know Drew had answered a few questions I had a few years ago about how light they were pulling their A.. I was thinking they had pulled it in the 3750 class with rear steel, and 18.4's.. The pictures I have seen of their tractor is similair to my G.. (but lighter.)
One day I'll get my 40 A finished..
