JD A 1951 - Based on the responses I received regarding my problem with getting the starter installed, will I be able to install the pin and cotter key for the small hook that goes on the end of the starter for the rod? There does not seem to be much room in back of the flywheel. Looks like installing the wire on the copper strap could also be a problem. When I removed the starter it all came down with the starter. The wire was disconnected from the battery because I am restoring the tractor, but I do not want to remove the flywheel. THANKS!

Yes use the round hole in the flywheel to see through, I've always done it this way.

Yes.

You might consider using a small piece of 2x4 as a spacer between the flywheel cover and flywheel.

I'm assuming you have the cover off. Yes you can do it. It's a bit of a pain but doable. Good Luck!

Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]Lamps and Wiring Diagram[/b:654c4848f0] diagram below.

Note the white lead wire from the starter switch to the POSITIVE post on the ammeter.

Take a look at the top of the starter.

Since the starter switch is on top of the starter, you might consider attaching the battery cable and the lead wire to the starter switch before installing the starter.

If there is not enough "[i:654c4848f0]slack[/i:654c4848f0]" in either the battery cable or the lead wire to the ammeter, then you might consider disconnecting each one of them at either the battery or the ammeter as necessary.
