I am needing to reconnect wires on coil and distribitor. 1951 JD A with an alternator.
Can anyone tell me if it can still be positive ground. seems I read, alternators only work with neg. ground
Thanks

Except for a custom made job, nearly alllllll alternators use Negative ground. Therefore the Coils + wires to the Ignition switch while the - wires to the distributor, which is opposite of the factory original for Pos ground.

The ammeter leads need swapped also, otherwise it would register bass ackwards.
