JD B Puller

I got a 41 B set up for pulling, it?s got a power block that?s bored, stroked, head
Work, carb work etc. I run 112 Blue in it and it?s hard starting, I?ve been playing with
The plugs, what gap would you recommend for this?

We have had good luck gapping them at 15. To big a gap and the flame will blow out with the high compression. We also run Renegade 120 + octane in all our pullers. Sell a lot to others that like it real well also. Last guy put some in his Oliver and he claims it burns half as much now as before.

Running a mag on a puller should be no different than a mag on a stock tractor. In other words, do NOT advance the mag ! It should be set right at TDC on # 1 . The advance is all inside and set. What affects start is start timing, which should be at TDC. Race fuel in hi comp engine will always start hard. Do what they do on race cars. Wire a kill switch to your mag and get engine rolling good BEFORE you switch the mag on.

May I ask how much Renegade 120 + costs per gallon? I had local dirt track motorcycle racer tell me his high octane gasoline cost $12 per gallon which sounds incredible to me.
Thanks,Jim

That's what I sell it for in 55 gal drums. From personal experience I know I burn a lot less running the 120 than the 118 we used to run at a cheaper cost per gallon plus there was a significant hp gain
running it. Been using it for the last 4 years and haven't had any unhappy guys using it. I'm running a big cube G JD and a stock bore-stroke G and they both like it.

Add in the cost of the pulling tractor, the fuel and wear and tear to get to the pull and back, the entry fees, the fuel you burn at the pull and a meal or two usually to go with it, it is expensive. And
then there are the ones a distance away where you have motel stays thrown in. But it is fun. We could be sitting in a bar or casino pi--ing the money down the toilet too. We meet some really good
people at the pulls and have developed some great friendships with them. For me it is a family thing. My self, 2 sons, wife, grandson, and grand daughter all enjoy competing at the pulls. Once in
awhile there are jackpot classes where you can win some of your money back and some pulls pay back pretty good for where you place.

Sorry, don't have experience with a mag. We're using either MSD ignition or crank trigger. I'd take MSD's advice........

Try some higher octane fuel if you can find it. 112 is at the bottom of what works in JD's. Some will say you don't need it but we run pulls year a round and have tried them all. The 120 renegade seems to suit the JD's real well. Mine will start with just the tap of the switch so that is not an issue.
