Can en one tell me how to wire a three wire GM alternator to a JD B Tractor and make it a 12V System?

please don't do that. repair what you have and keep your tractor orginal. it will bring more money some day if you sell it if you do. a b tuned and a good battery should crank. if will cost you less to fix your generator than change over every thing i would think.

Well i have done that sever times and i have never had en luck. It like something always wrong. So I'm going to convert over. The tractors stays in family. I have three A,B,M, Thanks

u have three posts an r an f and a batt you only use two posts the batt and the f i believe run a wire from the f to the batt post then to your battery will have to rev engine to excite the alt im having a brain fart on the r and f posts one will darain the battery when tractor is off that is the one you dont use went out and looked at the one on my case but thats labeled 1 2 and batt i have the 2 and batt hooked together been like that 2 years never had the battery drain

Most of the problems I have had with 6 volt systems have been with dirty connections. Try cleaning all of them systematically. Start with the battery, clean the connection at the ground and the starter. Use carborundum paper or a good file or brush.

After fifty/sixty years or so, the brushes on the generator and the contacts of the voltage regulator may be tired. Consider a rebuild on the generator and starter, and replacement of the voltage regulator.

The cost of the above may be less than the "value" the tractor will loose because of the conversion to an alternator.

However, it is your tractor, and the circumstances are yours to judge.

one of the best things you can do for your system is to use welding cable leads for battery cables. i've had a set on mine since 1999 and i've never had a correted connection at the battery or starter end. ou can take a lug, put it in a vise and heat it up with a torch and fill it helf full of solder and then push the expsoed end of a cable into it and let it cool for a second and you'll never have problems with that connection. i really hate to see a junked up tractor, but its yours to do with as you please. personally i have a little more respect for something thats old.

johns, I agree.
I converted one b over to 12V. My other B, I left 6V, with a wico distributor. It starts and runs just fine. With all the connections up to snuff, and rebuilt the dist. and carb., the cold winters up in northern Wisconsin cant keep it from starting. Though I may have to open the petcocks, it will pop off just as good as the 12V.
