JD baler 224

I have two of them. I have baled hay with them for over 20 years. They are good, low volume balers and will bale all day with few misses if adjusted properly. Let's just say if you have misses there is a good reason. The manual is excellent and trouble shooting is fairly easy. Repairs are not difficult and parts are available. There are many good balers on the market and you should be prepared for everybody trying to sell you on their favorite. This is the only square baler I have ever used and there is a reason...I never had to replace it. If you have difficulties with it, shoot me an email and we can compare notes.

I just got a nice 224W,,looks to be in very good condition,, I am going to put a #5 flail head on it,,plan on baling corn stalks at Rantual this summer..

I grew up with a 24t. Pa bought it new in 66. Same knotters. Never missed a bale but those balers are 50 years old now so if you want it to bale without miss you will have to get it in like new condition.

You'll have to post how the #5 works for you. I'm in the process of putting a #5 on a 24T right now for corn stalk baling.

224 was a better version of the 24 baler. Has 5 sets of pickup teeth, better plungerhead bearings, and some other improvements.

I have not started with the assembly yet,,I have most of the parts,,going to shine it up as i go..
